The Shamans
The Practical Mystics were the shamans, the tohunga, the medicine men and women of the earth; those who mediated and interacted with the unseen worlds to bring knowledge, balance, healing, ceremony, art, peace, prophecy and abundance to their people and to all the other forms of life amongst whom they dwelt in sacred relationship.
We are all Shamans now
The Practical Mystics’ Centre for Contemporary Shamanism has a vision
and a purpose
-to create practical strategies for living in the time of greatest
change ever known…
-and for our individual and collective emergence into the new world
that is striving to be born.
Shamanic work enables us to recognise who we really are, remember
the secrets we keep even from ourselves, and to take action to co-create
our world now and in the time to come.
Become a contemporary shaman
In community, in sacred space, in service to spirit, we will
recognise and remember the great mystery that dwells within us and all around us and bring sacred balance to all that is.
recognise and remember the great gifts and powers we have been given and bring these into manifestation through our work in the world.
recognise and remember the ancient cultural and spiritual traditions from which we all spring; open our heart to connect directly with the knowledge of those who came before us and those who will come after us.
recognise and remember that we are the dreamers and co-creators of this world and the world that is emerging and create a beneficent and beneficial future for our children and all our relations.
A Story
about Practical Mystics and Mystics
Once upon a
time, a mystic walked along a beautiful beach at sunset, meditating on
the sublime beauty of the earth. The last rosy rays of the Sun illuminated
a stick of driftwood, transforming it into a golden staff that could have
belonged to the creator himself.
The mystic contemplated it, musing on its meaning and its message. Exalted
and ecstatic, he continued his walk and his meditation….
A shaman, walking
along the same beach was also filled with joy at the beauty of the sunset.
He too saw the stick of driftwood and marvelled at its divine appearance
in the dying light of the Sun.
Then he picked it up and took it home, saying “Thank you Mother Earth for
this gift, which will be just the thing to serve as the Talking Stick at
the village meeting tonight…”
(thank you, Serge Kahili King, for this story.)
